A storm noisily rolled into Payson overnight Tuesday, releasing a few drops of rain and several claps of thunder towards sunrise. Residents can expect the cloud cover to stick around through the rest of the week, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters say scattered thunderstorms will continue across central Arizona throughout today and possibly through Monday.

Some locations in northern Gila County could see heavy rain and possible flooding as monsoonal moisture moves north into the region. By this weekend, a surge of deep moisture will bring more storms and dampen outdoor weekend plans.

“People with outdoor plans this weekend should continue to monitor the latest forecasts,” the weather service says on its Web site.

Temperatures are expected to stay near or slightly above normal.
