Rim Country Coalition

The Rim Country Coalition is a newly formed group of local agencies and community members. The focus of the group is the prevention of substance misuse/abuse among older adults in the Payson area. The group plans to help “connect seniors in the Rim Country.”

The group meets at 1 p.m. on the fourth Friday of the month at the Payson Senior Center, 514 W. Main St. Anyone interested in attending is welcome.

Payson Elks Lodge

Check out what is happening this weekend at B.P.O.E. 2154, located at 1206 N. Beeline Highway.

Friday, Aug. 23: 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Buffet (American food); 6 to 9 p.m. Karaoke with Don and Candy.

Saturday, Aug. 24: 2 to 6 p.m., Happy Hour; 3 to 6 p.m. Elks jam band.

Sunday, Aug. 25: 12 to 5 p.m., food; 1 p.m., Bingo (doors open at noon); 2 to 6 p.m., Happy Hour; 4:30 p.m. Pool Tournament.

Monday: 6 p.m., Game Night (if you like to play cards, etc., this is a must).

Tai Chi and Qigong

Tai Chi and Qigong classes are offered at 9 a.m. Saturdays at the Rim Country Health and Retirement Community, 807 W. Longhorn Road.

The program is especially designed for seniors 50 or older, but is beneficial for all ages. There is no charge, but donations are accepted.

MOAA meeting

The Payson Satellite Northern AZ Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America will meet Saturday, Aug. 24 at the Crosswinds at the Payson Airport. The meeting is open to any and all officers of any branch of services and their spouses. If you or your spouse were an officer, you should check this out.

The meeting will begin at noon and there will be a guest speaker. Dress is casual, meals ordered from the menu (not including dessert), with family and friends welcome. The cost is $15 per person. For reservations or questions call “CE” Carlton at (928) 474-9502.

Unity of Payson

Join Unity of Payson Sunday, Aug. 25 for the 10 a.m. service as guest speaker Michelle Abraham will present her talk titled, “Animal Instinct.” 

Learning to trust our gut feelings can be a challenge or it can be an opportunity for us to embrace a new way of believing in ourselves and in others. Join us in discovering how our ‘animal instinct’ and behaviors can teach us to survive and thrive in our lives today!

Payson Center for Spiritual Awareness

Wesley Ruth will present “No Harm/No Foul: How to Never Have Another Conflict in Your Lifetime” on Sunday, Aug. 25 at Payson Center for Spiritual Awareness.

Wes is facilitator to “A Course In Miracles” as well as a unique and inspiring service on the last Sunday of each month. Pine Library Friends

The Pine Library Friends will hold their next meeting at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 26 at the Library Activity Room located just behind the Cultural Hall on Highway 87 in Pine.

Our guest speaker will be a representative of Transition Town Payson. Come to hear how this volunteer group is working to build a resilient Rim Country. They are also active in the Payson Community Garden. I’ll bet you will enjoy it and learn something new. Come meet new people or bring a friend. All are welcome.

Graham to speak to Republican Club

The Rim Country Republican Club will meet Monday, Aug. 26 at Tiny’s Family Restaurant on East Highway 260.

Members and guests may gather at 11 a.m. to order lunch and to socialize. Beginning at 11:30 a.m., Arizona Republican Chairman Robert Graham will speak.

Overeaters Anonymous

Overeaters Anonymous meets from 2 p.m. Mondays at the Rim Country Health and Retirement Community Room, 807 W. Longhorn Road (after turning in the main driveway, turn right at the first driveway. The Community Room is in the center of the apartment complex). There are no fees or dues. The only membership requirement is a desire to not compulsively overeat anymore.

Payson Lions Club

Payson Lions Charitable Foundation and its parent Payson Lions Club serve Rim Country by conducting service and fund-raising projects to help those in need of eye exams and eyeglasses as well as hearing exams and hearing aids.

Membership in Lions is open to all adults interested in giving something back to their community. Ideas for improving our community are welcome. Celebrate Recovery

This group has no dues. Its Tuesday Morning Breakfast Bunch meets at Tiny’s Restaurant, 600 E. Highway 260, every week at 9 a.m. to visit and plan future activities.

The Sy Harrison Masonic Lodge #70, located at 200 E. Rancho Road in Payson, meets every Tuesday at 7 p.m. A dinner is held at 5:30 p.m. every second Tuesday for members, families and guests with an after-dinner program followed by the lodge’s Stated Meeting at 7 p.m.

Alzheimer’s caregivers evening support group

The Alzheimer’s caregivers support group has been growing over the past year and organizers have seen a need to start a second support group. 

It will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., the second and fourth Thursdays at the Payson Senior Center, 514 W. Main St., Payson and begins Thursday, Sept. 12. This caregiver support group meeting will be for caregivers who work outside the home and are only able to attend evening meetings.
