The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Round Valley man Wednesday on child molestation charges after he reportedly abused two young girls.
Deputies arrested the 66-year-old at his home on charges of child molestation, sexual abuse and furnishing harmful items to a six- and a nine-year-old girl. It is the Roundup’s policy not to reveal the identity of defendants accused of sexual crimes until after conviction.
Deputies were tipped off to the possible abuse in late November when called to the Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center in Globe. Deputies took two girls to the Valley area for medical exams and forensic interviews. The girls said they were staying in Payson while their mother worked in Phoenix when the alleged abuse occurred.
The girls’ mother learned of the alleged abuse after she picked the girls up from Payson. On the way home to Globe, one of the girls reportedly told her mother what had happened, according to a GCSO press release.
On Dec. 4, deputies served a search warrant at the man’s Round Valley home. Deputies arrested him and booked him into the Gila County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
