Payson had struggled to find its shot in back-to-back home court boys basketball losses to Cottonwood Mingus and Fountain Hills.

They finally located the little sucker at Mogollon on Monday night.

Austin Young scored 23 points to lead a trio of Longhorns in double figures as Payson enjoyed its best offensive game of the season in beating the Mustangs 79-43. PHS’s previous high was 76 points in a 17-point win over Sedona Red Rock on Dec. 5. But the Horns had failed to break 50 points in either of their previous two games — a 71-49 loss to Mingus and a 63-46 defeat against Fountain Hills.

However, Payson shot 58 percent (30 of 52) from the field, with 11 of its 12 players scoring. PHS also found net on half of its 14 three-point attempts.

Young, who sank three treys, also dished out six assists and had four steals.

Kain England added 15 points and two blocked shots and Matt Davis 14 points and four assists for Payson.

Jared Varner had 11 rebounds, Chaz Davis seven points, four assists and three rebounds and William Youngberg six points and five rebounds.

The Longhorns (6-4 overall, 2-2 power points games) have a 10-day break before returning to action in the Bradshaw Mountain Alvarez Tire Holiday Hoops Classic set for Dec. 26-28.

Mogollon fell to 2-9.
