There should be a few fewer hungry people in Rim Country this holiday season thanks to several local elementary schools that held collection drives.

At Payson Elementary School, students and staff collected more than 1,100 food items, all benefiting St. Vincent de Paul food bank.

Each time a student brought in one donation, they added a feather to their grade level turkey. “Our turkeys were the wildest turkeys I’ve ever seen,” said Melisa Taylor, PES secretary. “I was simply overwhelmed by the generosity of the families at PES.”

Julia Randall Elementary School also held a successful food drive.

“I couldn’t let the holiday season pass without letting everyone know what an outstanding job the young people of Payson have done for the hungry folks this year,” said Taylor.

“Children and parents of Payson, thank you for the love and kindness you have shared this holiday season.”
