Update: As of 1 p.m. Monday, ADOT has removed all travel restrictions on Highway 87. Chains and four-wheel drive are no longer required, but recommended.
A severe winter storm is making a mess across Rim Country Monday.
There are a number of slide offs on Highways 87 and 260, according to dispatch traffic and the Arizona Department of Transportation is requiring chains or four-wheel drive on Highway 87 for north and southbound travel past milepost 218, which is two miles north of Sunflower through Winslow.
From the National Weather Service, significant snowfall is expected to continue through the evening in Rim Country with the slow moving storm dumping several inches of snow across the Mogollon Rim. A winter weather advisory for snow is in effect.
With icy conditions on the roadways, officials are encouraging motorists to limit travel.
Drier conditions will move into the area Tuesday with the warmer temperatures expected through the weekend.
