The curtain has fallen on the winter sports seasons at Payson High School.

It all ended Wednesday evening in Chinle where the Lady Longhorn basketball team fell 52-46 to the homestanding Wildcats officially putting an end to Payson’s quest to remain alive in the post season.

The boy’s basketball season wrapped up last week when the team failed to earn a berth into either the Section III or Division III tournaments.

Wrestling ended Feb. 9 at the state tournament in Prescott Valley. There, PHS senior Conner Anderson won the 160-pound state championship.

The baseball and softball spring seasons are scheduled to tip off tomorrow, Feb. 15 with scrimmages in Winslow.

Lady Longhorn assistant coach Kadi Tenney said, however, the team might try to opt of of the scrimmage because all its varsity pitchers were on the basketball team and might not be available on Friday.

First year baseball coach Brian Young indicated his team would travel to Winslow even though most of the pre-season practices had been indoors due to rain, snow and wet playing fields.
