There are big changes in the State Farm office.
After 12 years as the local agent, Deborah Barber retired Jan. 1 and Eric Santana took over the office, at 902 S. Beeline Highway.
Besides bringing with him a shiny Hummer parked out front wrapped in State Farm logos, Santana brings with him 25 years of experience in the insurance business.
Santana, a 31-year Payson resident, spent the majority of his career with Farm Bureau.
When the opportunity to run the State Farm office opened, Santana said he jumped at the chance.
Santana said he can offer better customer service with State Farm, which offers numerous financial and insurance options.
State Farm is also the No. 1 auto insurer in the country, beating out the top four insurers combined.
“It is pretty exciting,” he said.
Santana said besides State Farm’s reputable name, the corporate support and line of products offered is impressive.
And although it is the largest auto insurer, Santana said it still feels like he works for a small company.
“Some companies get so big they lose that personal feel,” he said.
Santana was introduced to the insurance business on a whim in 1986. A construction worker by trade, he liked the structure of the insurance business and the security it offered. Although he never graduated from high school, Santana said he never let that hold him back.
“The sky is limit,” he said. “I believe anyone can achieve anything they put their mind to.”
It is a lesson he passed on to his five children, two of whom work in the State Farm office.
Santana said no one in his family had graduated from high school before his oldest daughter did. Now the family successfully runs an online hunting and tactical supply site, www.santanaoutdoors .com.
