Levi Armstrong Fished His Way To A First Place

Former Arizona Coaches Association All-Star football honoree Levi Armstrong, a 2002 Payson High graduate, fished his way to a first place showing during the opening day of the FLW EverStart National Guard Western Division bass tournament at Roosevelt Lake.

In the field of 83 professional anglers from around the country, Armstrong slipped into first by boating a five-fish limit that tipped the scales at 15-pounds 7-ounces.

California pro Joseph Caporuscio is currently a distant second with 13-pounds, 3-ounces.

Tournament fishing continues today, Friday, Feb. 22, in weather conditions projected to improve over opening day when winds gusted and temperatures pummeled into the mid-40s.

The tournament wraps up tomorrow, Saturday, when the top-10 anglers in the two-day standings fish for a grand prize of $15,000 and a new bass boat.

At Payson High, Armstrong starred for the Longhorns in football, wrestling and baseball.
