Samuel G. Loveless has joined Payson Care Center as its new executive director.
“Sam was a natural choice for us as executive director for Payson Care Center,” said Matt Ham, regional vice president of Life Care Centers of America’s Mesquite Region, of which Payson Care Center is a part. “He has a strong drive and passion for giving the best care possible to each resident he serves. His life and work missions are in sync, and he brings a lot of energy to this new role.”
Loveless comes to Payson Care Center from Garden Terrace Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence in Salt Lake City, Utah, another facility operated by Life Care Centers of America.
There, he successfully completed a rigorous administrator-in-training program and became a Utah licensed nursing home administrator before serving as assistant administrator. Prior to his time at Garden Terrace, he was a senior business analyst for a large consulting company based out of Chicago, where he worked for three years in small business development.
Payson Care Center is his first opportunity as an executive director.
“Payson Care Center was my first choice,” said Loveless. “I was very excited to get the appointment. There are many facilities in Arizona, but I am a small-town boy at heart, and Payson is just the right size for my family.”
Originally from Sacramento, Calif., Loveless earned a bachelor’s degree in finance and a master’s degree in business administration with a concentration in health care management.
Loveless said he made the switch to health care when he found himself at a crossroads.
“I’d just sold a business and looked into buying another. Instead, I decided to go back to school to get my MBA. I always liked health care and so I looked into companies with a strong training program and was drawn to this company. I feel this is my calling,” he said.
Loveless said great clinicians (physicians) don’t always make great business people. “There is a need (in the health care industry) for people with good business backgrounds. I feel it is a strength and something that I can offer.”
He said he wanted to be with a company where he could help people. The more he learned about the work, the more he loved it.
Loveless started at Payson Care Center Jan. 2. He has observed that the facility has a great staff.
“They are wonderful people who care about the residents. And as I’ve come to know the residents I’ve been impressed by their lives,” he said.
The biggest challenge at the moment is getting the right people in the right place, Loveless said.
As for the future — he said look for some big changes in the facility. Over the next two years, Life Care Centers of America will be making major improvements to Payson Care Center’s access and aesthetics, both outside and in. There will be expansion to the exterior and rearranging the space assignments inside, he said.
“We want to make this the facility of choice in Arizona,” Loveless said.
