Lady Horns fall in holiday opener



Lady Longhorns Arissa Paulson (No. 23 at right), a freshman center, and her sister, Arianna Paulson, a junior guard, wait with a Blue Ridge player to hear what the referee has to say about a play.

Payson jumped out to a 20-10 halftime lead over Blue Ridge in the opening game of the Holiday Hoops tournament Dec. 28 in Wilson Dome, only to see the Lady Yellow Jackets come roaring back to win a 41-39 thriller.

In the game, senior Chioya Hill (44) continued her assault on the school rebounding record, hauling in 21 rebounds.

Also participating in the tournament were Catalina Foothills Falcons, Mingus Marauders, Marana Tigers, Xavier Prep Bobcats, Round Valley Elks, Apollo Hawks, Kofa Kings, Alchesay Falcons, Higley Knights, Gilbert Tigers, Queen Creek Bulldogs and Westwood Warriors.

The Lady Horns hustled in their opening-day game with Blue Ridge at the 2012 Holiday Hoops Invitational Dec. 28.

The Lady Yellow Jackets came from behind to score a 41-39 victory over the Payson team.
