Watch Your Step Until Sun Melts The Ice

I urge all residents to watch their step until the sun melts all that ice.

I urge all residents to watch their step until the sun melts all that ice.

Tonto Village has turned into a winter wonderland in the past few days. I have not received any totals from the residents, so my guess would be about nine inches of snow. On Tuesday morning, the temperature registered 12 degrees! Brrr! According to the weather reports, the rest of the week and into next week should be warmer and no more snow for the time being, anyway! I just hope that the black ice melts away! I had an unfortunate spill when my daughter and I walked to the mailboxes last week. I slipped on the ice that I could not see because there was fresh snow on the top. I got a big knot on my head and bruised my tailbone. I will survive, but it could have been worse. I urge all residents to watch their step until the sun melts all that ice.

A thank-you to the local Gila County maintenance crew for clearing the streets in Tonto Village. They did an exceptional job of making the streets a little less icy. Thank you again.

The New Year is here and 2013 has begun. Dear past, Thank you for your lessons. Dear Future… I’m ready! Dear God, Thank you for another chance. Cheers to a brand New Year. May many new doors open for us all. Bring on 2013!

Double D Doings

I did not announce the winners of the nine-ball competition the week before Christmas. The ladies enjoyed a celebration Christmas party with gifts and good food and playing their favorite pool game. The winners were Ethel Cain, Betty Koutz and Kara Shaw. Congratulations to the winners.

Birthdays, etc.

Apologies to Mikey Marazza, formerly of Christopher Creek and now of Payson. Mikey had a birthday on Jan. 1. Mikey used to write the Roundup’s Christopher Creek column for many years before she moved into Payson.

Sorry, Mikey! I sure hope you had a wonderful day.

Laura Bierwirth of Christopher Creek and Payson will add another candle to her birthday cake on Jan. 11. Laura makes the trek to the Village to play dominoes just about every Wednesday.

Rick Heron, a Hellsgate firefighter, will be another year older on Jan. 13. On Jan.14, Claudia Ezell of Christopher Creek adds another candle to her birthday cake.

Happy birthday to each of you. May love, laughter and contentment decorate your day and fill your year.

Phon and Dara Sutton of Bear Flat will celebrate 33 years of marriage on Jan. 12.

Congratulations and much love to you both on your anniversary.

Hellsgate Fire Department

The first fire board meeting of 2013 will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 9 at the Star Valley fire station. The meeting will begin at 5:30 pm. sharp.

Since this is a brand new year, it is a good time to check the batteries in your smoke detectors. If the Christmas tree is a cut tree, now is the time to take it down before it becomes a fire hazard.

Happy New Year, everyone!
