Several groups have formed to address the needs of seniors, which comprise about a quarter of Payson’s population. A number of organizations work diligently to meet the needs of these residents through education and entertainment opportunities, social lunches, Meals on Wheels and grants to provide home improvements and repairs.
The Pinal-Gila Council for Senior Citizens works with area organizations to prevent substance misuse by older adults, with funding from Cenpatico Behavioral of Arizona funds the effort.
The Rim Country Coalition has met for several months with community members and representatives from organizations concerned about senior wellness. The coalition meets at 1 p.m. the fourth Friday of every month at the Payson Senior Center, 514 W. Main St.
Dr. Alan Michels, with Ponderosa Family Care, will talk at the Jan. 25 meetings about pain medications and older adults.
Anyone interested may attend the Connecting Seniors in the Rim Country programs, which will also include an all-day Senior Connections Conference Friday, May 10 at the Mazatzal Hotel & Casino of Payson. Guest speakers will address a variety of topics.
