Shelby School Pack #7787 Charter Organization Representative Daniel Rensch stands between Zane Grey District Executive Jeremy Beakley (left) and Zane Grey District Commissioner Eric Randau (right). Both men visited the Shelby Scouts on Monday, Jan. 14.
The month is going too fast. Next week is the last week of January! Is it too early to think spring? Tonto Village still has snow left over from the last storm, so it is difficult to think of spring flowers just yet. Since this week was so different from last week’s severe cold weather, it seems like spring could be just around the corner.
Hellsgate Fire Department
The following Hellsgate personnel attended the Arizona Fire District Conference in Laughlin, Nev. from Jan. 17-20: Fire Chief Gary Hatch, Assistant Chief David Bathke, Fire Board Chairman Larry Cory and the two newest board members, Gary Norem and Fred Horton.
The Hellsgate Fireflies have set their first meeting of the new year for 10 a.m., Monday, April 8 in the Tonto Village Fire Station meeting room. If this date is not convenient for you due to work, appointments, etc., please call Janet at (928) 478-9935 if you would like to volunteer your time to help at the annual Memorial Weekend Breakfast on May 25, 2013. The event is one of two fund-raisers that the Fireflies sponsor for the benefit of the Hellsgate Firefighters.
The Fireflies can use all the help that they can get to make the breakfast a success. There will be more information on the event as the time gets closer to the breakfast.
The Scouts of Pack #7787 performed a flag ceremony for the second week in a row — planning and performing these ceremonies are a necessary requirement to reach the Webelos level for many of the Scouts. After the flag ceremony, the Scouts completed the Fitness Worksheet —once again, a necessary achievement for earning their Webelos badges.
The pack was visited by Jeremy Beakley and Eric Randau — two district executives for the Grand Canyon Council, Zane Grey District. Beakley asked all the Scouts what their favorite activities have been so far, and what they’d most like to take part in with their pack. Their answer? Camping trips!
Grace Daniels, a longtime resident of Tonto Village III will add another candle to her birthday cake on Jan. 28. Grace has been a staunch supporter of the fire department auxiliary for many years and the Fireflies appreciate all her help through the years and they hope that Grace has many more memories to add. Rockin’ Ron Gibson shares Jan. 28 with Grace. Ron has also been a big supporter of the Hellsgate Fireflies with his numerous announcements on his radio show. Thank you Ron for all you do for the Fireflies and they all wish you a very Happy Birthday! On Jan. 24, Hellsgate firefighter Bill Beller adds another candle to his birthday cake. Have a great day, Bill.
Condolences to Marie Grant of Tonto Village II for the loss of her mother recently. Marie is one of the original ladies who began the Dominoes group about 12 years ago. Always know, Marie, you are never alone.
Sincerest sympathies to Hellsgate Fire Captain Rick Heron on the passing of his mother-in-law.

How many times has a screw from your eyeglasses come loose? Here is an easy eyeglass protector: to prevent the screws from loosening, apply a small drop of Maybelline Crystal Clear nail polish to the threads of the screws before tightening them.
