Where Is Understanding Of The Constitution?

Editor:

I am amazed that otherwise apparently intelligent adults have so little understanding of the Constitution. Maybe that is why, after over 200 years, ours has been pretty much shredded.

Last week, a letter writer kept referring to well regulated militia, apparently failing to realize that when the Constitution was written, that meant the citizens should be armed equal to the army, rather than regulated and controlled by an out of control tyrannical government.

Thus, instead of being regulated to the semi-automatic arms we have now, the people should have the same weapons as the military.

This week, a writer claims that the “gun industry” and the NRA are responsible for the mentally ill people who commit mass murders with stolen guns in government-imposed “gun free zones” where they know no one else has a gun.

Every mass murder, except one in the last 20 years, was committed in a gun free zone. The single exception was the Giffords’ shooting, but all of Tucson is pretty much a gun free zone.

Every mass murder, except one, were committed by deranged kids addicted to violent video games and mind-altering drugs like Prozac. (The vast majority come from homes where the parents are Democrats). The sole exception was the terrorist attack (workplace violence) in a gun free zone at Ft. Hood.

Guns are not the problem. Sick people are!

What part of “being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed” do these people not understand? (There is no “BUT!”)

The Second Amendment has nothing to do with hunting. It was written to keep us free from another tyrannical dictator!
