It’s no surprise that the Payson Unified School District (PUSD) personnel carousel has continued to spin in a rather strange fashion. Superintendents come and they go, principals are hired and they are fired and teachers and coaches are reduced in force (RIF’ed) and/or assigned to “other duties.” The one constant in our local district is the governing board.
How much personnel turmoil occurs in school districts comparable to PUSD? Blue Ridge, Fountain Hills, Show Low, Snowflake, and even Camp Verde districts seem to lack the drama and strife that our own PUSD appears to exude on a regular basis.
Yes, being a school governing board member is a thankless and no-paying position. However, I’m not sure our students and staff at PUSD are getting their “money’s worth” from this most important investment.
