Ann Adams and Nancy O’Rourke will be representing the Payson Women’s Golf Association nine-hole group at the annual Arizona Women’s Golf Association 9-hole State Medallion Club Team Tournament to be contested Jan. 13, 2014 at Oakwood and Ironwood Golf Clubs in Sun Lakes.
Adams will represent the Lady Niners in the low net competition and O’Rourke advances as Payson’s low gross champion.
The pair earned the right to advance to golf’s version of the “Big Show” during June tournament play at Payson Golf Course.
“In order to qualify, members had to post either a low gross or low net score out of their two best front nine holes of play and one of their two best back nine holes of play,” said O’Rourke, the Lady Niner spokesperson.
“Ann and I will be competing against other clubs across the state. The Medallion award will be given to the team of the gross player’s score and the net player’s score.”
Also in PWGA June play, Bette Walgren was second in both low gross and low net competitions. O’Rourke was third in low gross play and Nina Szakal third in low net.
In addition, Lady Niner members turned in some commendable achievements including closest-to-the-pin wins by Shirley Grady (June 6), Isabella Sockrider (June 13) and Adams (June 20 and 27).
On June 13, O’Rourke carded a birdie and Mary McEvoy finished with a sterling chip in.
