From one family run business to another. The Roundup’s former advertising director Bobby Davis is now at Steve Coury Ford in Star Valley.
Davis joined the dealership’s staff in June as the new finance manager. He said after eight years with the paper he was ready for a new challenge.
While a new company, selling vehicles isn’t far outside of Davis’ wheelhouse. He worked in Star Valley many years ago as the general sales manager at Star Valley RV, and spent two years in the Valley with Worldwide RV.
He says he loves the customer interaction that sales offers and he prides himself on a high level of customer service.
“It is all customer service and then keeping your word. If you tell someone you are going to do something, do it, you know, follow up,” he said. “Customer service is the key to all businesses.”
Unlike the large dealerships found in the Valley, Steve Coury is notably smaller, with a handful of salespersons, but that has its advantages, he said.
“We aren’t a high-pressure sales team that will hold you and your keys hostage for six hours.”
After a test drive, a customer’s keys are given back.
“We hear horror stories every day about Valley dealerships,” he said. “We are a small dealership, but this is a small community so we have to work harder because people talk.”
Davis works primarily with customers after they have selected a vehicle; reviewing extended warranty, insurance and accessory options.
He said despite the slow economic recovery, the vehicle market is holding its own with many people coming in for new vehicles, including the most popular truck in the country, the Ford F-150.
“The market appears to be turning around,” he said. “Every month it is getting better and better, which is a good indicator of the economy.
“At Steve Coury, nearly 90 percent of customers that buy a new car bring in a trade-in, which provides us with a great used inventory,” he said.
Steve Coury sells all makes and models of vehicles for this reason, and if they don’t have a particular car on the lot, they can search their lots in Cottonwood or other Ford dealerships.
