A family gassing up their vehicle Monday night said they watched in horror as one man attacked another with a large hunting knife in the Circle K North parking lot.

The witnesses, who asked that we not reveal their identities, pulled into the quiet gas station for a few quick supplies; they ended up staying for hours answering police questions, all the while trying to shield a child from the chaos.

In all, police arrested Bart Fiesler, 53, of Payson, Justin Kolbe, 27, of Pine, and Jeni Lundeen, 35, of Payson, on various charges, said Police Chief Don Engler.

According to witnesses, at about 8:45 p.m., a white Jeep Cherokee pulled up to the store and a female passenger went inside.

Minutes later, a tan Chevy Trailblazer pulled up behind the Jeep, blocking it in.

Witnesses said they didn’t think much of it until they noticed the Trailblazer’s driver, Lundeen, had a black eye and the passenger, Kolbe, appeared upset.

Kolbe reportedly started yelling and cursing at Fiesler, who was still inside the Jeep.

Witnesses said they heard Kolbe shout, “Look at her face!” and “Why would you hit a woman?”

Kolbe reportedly then reached inside the passenger window of the Jeep and started swinging at

Fiesler, according to officer Michael Hansen in a police report.

It is unclear if Fiesler then got out of the vehicle and started chasing Kolbe around the parking lot, but at some point, Kolbe went back to the Trailblazer and retrieved a large knife.

Kolbe told Hansen he never swung the knife at Fiesler, he had just grabbed it for protection. The men continued fighting until police arrived.

Officers found Fiesler was bleeding from the right side of his face, but no one else was injured.

As police worked through everyone’s stories, they learned from Lundeen that she had visited Fiesler earlier in the day to buy marijuana, according to the police report.

During the transaction, Fiesler grew angry and reportedly beat Lundeen.

Lundeen later told Kolbe what had happened and as the pair drove toward Lundeen’s apartment, they spotted the Jeep at Circle K and decided to stop and confront Fiesler.

At the end of the investigation, police arrested Kolbe on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana for sale and possession of drug paraphernalia; Lundeen was arrested on charges of possession of narcotic drugs and DUI; and Fiesler was arrested on a charge of assault/domestic violence.

A witness said it was one of the crazier things they had ever seen. They tried to protect an 11-year-old with them from the chaos, but eventually, they needed to use the store’s bathroom and had to walk by Fiesler, who sat bloodied on the curb.

According to online court records, Fiesler pleaded guilty to assault in 1997; Kolbe pleaded guilty to aggravated assault in 2012; and Lundeen pleaded guilty to endangerment in 2001.
