Mudder Warriors get healthy, enter 5k race.

As part of a diabetes treatment program, seven members of the Tonto Apache community trained eight weeks for Saturday’s Mogollon Monster Mudder race.

Working with Casandra Stouder, diabetes program coordinator and trainer at the Tonto Apache Tribe, the group trained Monday through Thursday and followed a healthy meal plan. On-site nurse John Hancock assessed each client before, during and after each session. Members collectively improved the fitness level by 42 percent.

“John and I were very excited to see our “mudder warriors” perform on Saturday,” Stouder said. “They have all shown great determination and dedication to themselves, to their teammates and also to us.”

Members of the Mudder Warriors team included tribal councilors Sabrina Campbell, Donavan Waterman and Christina Campbell, and tribal employees Melinda Rolan, Mary Smith, Michelle Marinelli and JoDean Gillum.
