Fire In Heart Of Payson

Payson Fire Department personnel work the fire on the corner of Pecan and Ash. With the gusty winds, emergency crews doused the flames within minutes of the report of the fire.

A fire broke out in a manufactured home in the densely built up corner of Elm and Ash Street in Payson around 1:00 p.m. today.

Emergency personnel had flames under control by 1:30.

Neighbors say an older lady who has difficulty walking and owns a Chihuahua lives in the home. They also said her car was not in the driveway and they hope she was not at home when the fire broke out.

By 1:15, the streets surrounding Elm, Colcord, Ash and Bonita swarmed with emergency personnel from the Payson Fire and Police Departments, Hellsgate Fire, and the Forest Service. Smoke from the fire could be seen from up and down Hwy 87.

Witnesses on Airport Road said they could clearly see the smoke.

The gusty winds coming from the southwest, blew the smoke smell for miles towards the Rim.

The National Weather Service declared today a red flag fire danger day. They report a low pressure zone over Nevada is causing high winds from the south. These winds along with single digit relative humidity numbers have created critical fire weather conditions for Northwest Arizona.
