Bereaved parents support group
The Compassionate Friends offers hope, reassurance and a safe place to talk about our children with others who understand the pain of losing a child. Anyone who has lost a child (or grandchild) at any time, at any age is welcome to attend.
The group meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at 102 W. Roundup, Suite D.

The Payson Walkers now meet at 8 a.m. daily for hour-long walks on pavement from various locations around town. Meeting sites this week are:

A men’s only Lunch and Learn is planned at the Payson Regional Center’s Senior Circle at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 12. Dr. Alan Michels will discuss issues related to men’s physical and sexual health.
To make it possible for comfortable discussion, no women will be admitted.
The June 19 Member Lunch is a special event for Dutch Oven Cooking. Members will watch the demonstration, then enjoy a lunch cooked in Dutch ovens. Campers, cooks and anyone else interested in Dutch oven cooking should definitely plan to attend. The cost is $4.

Rimstones Rock Club
The Payson Rimstones Rock Club will meet at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 12 at Rumsey Park Ramada 4, 328 N. McLane Rd., Payson. This will be for a general meeting only. The guest speaker will be Pat Velasco, who is a retired Forest Service firefighter and crew boss. He will be giving a talk on fire prevention. Please bring your own drinks.
Weight Watchers meets at 5 p.m. every Wednesday at the Masonic Lodge, 200 E. Rancho Road (next to the fire station).

TOPS 373 Payson (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter meets every Thursday morning the Senior Circle, 215 N. Beeline Highway, Payson.
The weigh-in starts at 7:20 a.m. and the meeting starts at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 9:30 a.m.

Reaching Out Breast Cancer Support Group
The Reaching Out Breast Cancer Support Group meets on the second Thursday of every month from 12:30 p.m. until around 2:30 p.m. at Mount Cross Lutheran Church, 301 E. Highway 260 (just past Safeway) in Payson.
The Thursday, June 13 meeting will be a potluck. This is for anyone who has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Come out, bring your favorite food (salad, casserole, dessert or other) to share and enjoy an afternoon of information, fellowship, comfort and support.

Rim Country Celts will hold its monthly meeting at 6 p.m., Thursday, June 13 at the home of Alice Natale There will be a potluck dinner followed by the business meeting.

The Tuesday Morning Breakfast Bunch, a group of single men and women, meet at 9 a.m. every Tuesday at The Journigan House on Old Main in Payson, to visit and plan future activities.

• A private showing of “Man of Steel” at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 15 at Sawmill Theatres. The $7 ticket includes popcorn and soda; meet in the lobby at 9:45 to get tickets.

Marguerite Noble and Rim Country pioneer life
Rim Country pioneer stories and the life of Marguerite Noble (1910-2007) will be featured at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 17, in the Payson Public Library meeting room. This free and open to the public event is hosted by the Library Friends of Payson. Speaker Lita Nicholson will present a video program produced by the Northern Gila Country Historical Society that includes pioneer tales told in the voice of Marguerite Noble. Local historic photographs are embedded in the program as well.
Noble was born in the town of Roosevelt and wrote “Filaree,” now considered a classic novel about American pioneer life set in turn-of-the-century Gila County. Noble was a charter member of the Northern Gila County Historical Society and received many honors, including the Sharlot Hall Award from the Sharlot Hall Museum, the Al Merita Award from the Arizona Historical Society and was selected as one of Arizona’s first Culturekeepers.
