The 2013 Little League baseball and softball regular seasons are in the record books and Payson All-Star players are prepping for postseason tournaments with sights set on area, district and state honors.

“The regular season went well, and the kids and coaches are excited about the upcoming All-Star games,” said Payson Little League President Keely Parker. “The kids and coaches have worked very hard.”

Although Little League Area 1 coaches met Saturday in Winslow, postseason tournament brackets, aside from the 11-12-year girls, have not yet been finalized.

Start dates and locations, however, have been set.

They are:

• 11-12-years softball — June 25 in Payson.

• 11-12-years baseball — July 1 in Flagstaff.

• 10-11-years baseball — July 1 in Winslow.

• 9-10-years baseball — July 1 in Payson.

• 9-10-years softball — July 5 in Winslow.

All-Star coaches have also been selected from those who coached teams during the regular season.

Andre Newell and Tara Smith are coaching the 11-12-years softball team. Nick Landress and Smith will coach the 9-10 softball Stars and Warren Parton and Chris Perkes are set to coach the 11-12-years baseball Star team. Kacy Parker and Tim Rice will lead the 11-12-years baseball team and Ken Schneider and Mark Petefish have been assigned to coach the 9-10-years baseball team.

With All-Stars and coaches selected, Parker’s hope is that local fans turn out to support the local players. “We encourage everyone to come out and see some of the All-Star games here in town,” she said.

In looking back on the regular season, Parker stresses the campaign wouldn’t have been a success without the support of the Tonto Apache Tribe, Payson Concrete and Kevin Dick Investments.

The tribe donated funds to help cover the costs of field preparations and Kevin Dick and Payson Concrete contributed to erect the new flagpole on Rumsey III.

Parker also thanked the league board including vice president of baseball operations Drew Justice and vice president of softball Shawna Zale.

Both, Parker said, “Have worked tremendously hard this season and I could not have accomplished what I have as president without either of them.”
