Unity of Payson

Michelle Abraham will be the speaker at Unity of Payson services at 10 a.m., Sunday, March 10. The title of her talk will be, Spiritual Unfoldment — Unity members will take time out of their busy lives to be at peace and one with God and take time to recharge their commitment to life, to apply spiritual principles and surrender what is no longer supporting them. 

Abraham has been a Transformational Life Coach and inspirational speaker since 1993. She’s been involved with Unity of Phoenix since 2004. She’s also in training to be a Unity Minister.

Overeaters Anonymous

Overeaters Anonymous meets from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays at the Rim Country Health and Retirement Community Room, 807 W. Longhorn Road (after turning in the main driveway, turn right at the first driveway. The Community Room is in the center of the apartment complex). Another meeting is held at 11 a.m. There are no fees or dues. The only membership requirement is a desire to not compulsively overeat anymore.

Photographers meet

The Rim Country Photography/ Camera Club will meet at 6:30 p.m., Monday, March 11 at Rim Country Apartments, 807 W Longhorn Road.  The evening will feature a photo presentation of Arizona Camera Club Council’s 2012 Spring and Fall Roundup submissions and winners, including photos by RCCC members. 

The meeting is open to all those interested in photography and there is no charge to attend.

After entering the drive at Rim Country Health, turn right and go to the building marked 809. The meeting is held in the activity room located in the central courtyard. For questions, call Harold Rush (928) 474-9673.

Rim Area Gardeners

Rim Area Gardeners meets the second Monday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Church of Christ, 401 E. Tyler Parkway.

This month, March 11, Transition Town Payson members will present a brief overview of Transition Town concepts. Transition Town’s basic tenets are to conserve water, conserve energy, grow food and build community. Transition Town goals are to help make the community more sustainable and resilient in a world of change. The public is invited.  Refreshments will be served.

Payson Area Singles

This group has no dues, and all singles are welcome. The Tuesday Morning Breakfast Bunch meets at Tiny’s Restaurant at 9 a.m. every Tuesday to visit and plan future activities. Watch for details on the St. Patrick’s Day party.

• Saturday, March 16 a private showing of “The Call,” starring Halle Berry, will start at 10 a.m. at Sawmill Theatres. The Party Room at The Pizza Factory has been reserved for lunch at noon after the show.

Democratic Women

The Democratic Women’s Club will hold their monthly meeting at noon, Tuesday, March 12 at Tiny’s Restaurant. The speaker will be Randy Parraz, attorney, orator and civil rights activist who helped remove Russell Pierce from office, and is currently participating in a recall effort against Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

Payson Womans Club

The Payson Womans Club, the oldest service club in Payson, holds general membership meetings at 1 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at the Payson Womans Club building, 510 W. Main St. Membership is open to local women ages 18 and up.

Moose Lodge events

The Loyal Order of the Moose meetings are at 6 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. The Women of the Moose meet at 6 p.m. the first and third Tuesday of each month at the lodge.

Beyond Limits Disability Ministry

Beyond Limits will meet from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, March 12, at Crossroads Foursquare Church, 114 E. Cedar Lane.

The evening will include dinner, music, crafts and an inspirational message. There is no charge.

Bereaved parents support group

The Compassionate Friends offers hope, reassurance and a safe place to talk about our children with others who understand the pain of losing a child. Anyone who has lost a child (or grandchild) at any time, at any age is welcome to attend.

The group meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at 102 W. Roundup, Suite D.

Rimstones Rock Club

The Payson Rimstones Rock Club will meet Wednesday, March 13 at the Payson Public Library, 328 N. McLane Road. The board meeting is at 2:30 p.m. and regular meeting 3:30 p.m.

The afternoon’s guest speakers will be from the Payson Ranger District. They will speak on the plans for the properties on the edge of Payson and other resource issues. This plans to be a very interesting topic about our Payson area.  Please plan to attend.

Breast Cancer group hears about nutrition

March is National Nutrition Month and the Reaching Out — Breast Cancer Support Group will hear from Peggy Martin, certified clinical nutritionist, at its Thursday, March 14 meeting. The meeting is at 12:30 p.m. at Mount Cross Lutheran Church, 601 E. Highway 260.

Martin’s topic will be mindful nutrition.

“I draw from my experience of having been married to a Zen Monk. He introduced me to Zen philosophy and I became a student of the IChing. Since then, I’ve attended numerous retreats with a focus on mindfulness. I try to make mindfulness and gratefulness a daily practice, especially while preparing food.”

She will provide handouts, possibly show a video, offer excerpts from her “mindfulness journals” written over the past 30 years and will share a few copies of “My Mother’s Kitchen” newspaper articles, which included commentary about food mindfulness. 

Wisconsin Club meets

Go Bucky — All Wisconsin people will meet at Tiny’s, 600 E. Highway 260 at 7:30 a.m. on Monday, March 18 for breakfast and conversation. Please contact Glenn Zimbelman at (928) 363-0155 for questions. Packers fans welcome!
