Assessor Needs Current Addresses

Almost a month ago, the Gila County assessor’s office mailed out the “2014 Notice of Values” to property owners. Now Deborah Hughes’ Globe office has boxes of the notices, all returned due to lack of correct mailing address.

“A few have forwarding notices,” Hughes said, but there are so many that don’t, she has called in staff in the treasurer’s office to help go through the returns and help track down good addresses.

In the past, the county has made a second mailing to everyone in hopes of getting a better response.

“We had more than a 10 percent budget cut and we can’t afford to do that this year,” Hughes said.

Even if there is a change of address sticker on a returned notice, the county staff cannot formally change the information unless it has an authorization to do so, signed by the property owner, the assessor said.

“It is really easy to do on our Web site,” she added.

To receive the “2014 Notice of Values” property owners must notify the assessor’s office of their address change. Address change forms can be completed on the office’s Web site at

Another option is to phone the office to have an address change form mailed out. Call (928) 472-7973 in Payson; (928) 402-8714 in Globe; or toll free (Arizona only), 800-304-4452.

Hughes cautioned residents have only until April 29, 2013 to appeal the new values assigned by the assessor’s office.
