The Lady Eagles of Thatcher looked pretty good in the first four innings of play against the winningest team of Lady Longhorns of Payson, but then, Longhorn Ladies got on base kept scoring for the rest of the game.
Ace pitcher for the Longhorns, Ari Paulson, struck out at least 16 batters and only one Lady Eagle made it to first base. And only because catcher Taylor Peterson and first baseman Kaitlyn Wessel waited too long to see if the bunted ball was going to go foul.
By the seventh inning when the Lady Longhorns were assured of the win, Megan Wessel caught an infield pop-up fly and the game was over. Final score 9-0.
Today at 11:00 a.m. the Lady Longhorns play River Valley at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex in Phoenix.
Earlier in the evening the Longhorn baseball team had a hot streak of their own going against Blue Ridge.
Longhorn Dailey Carnes pitched a fantastic game with 12 strike outs, allowed only 3 hits and didn't walk any batters. The boys played exceptionally well, catching balls that looked nearly impossible to grab, running bases faster than you could say; "Look at Nick McMullen go!", and scoring runs when they wanted to.
The final score was 7-0.
Next up for the Longhorns is the Show Low Cougars, as they won their game against Combs 7-3. Game time at the Surprise Sports Complex is 1:00 p.m. today.
