Moose Lodge events

The Loyal Order of the Moose meetings are at 6 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. The Women of the Moose meet at 6 p.m. the first and third Tuesday of each month.

The lodge has a Thursday Fish Fry from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and weekly dinner specials are available.

Organ music Tuesdays

A night of Christian and theatre organ music, performed by Marc Epstein is offered every Tuesday evening beginning at 7 p.m. at Payson Center for Spiritual Awareness at 107 W. Wade Lane, Payson. A love offering is encouraged.

The Payson Regional Medical Center Senior Circle calendar includes the following:

• Wednesday, May 8, 11:30 a.m. – Lunch and Learn with Dr. Katharine Raymer, who will be discussing fibrocystic breast disease.

• Wednesday, May 15, 11:30 a.m. – Member Lunch with AZ Trails Travel representatives, who will discuss trips planned for the remainder of the year.

• Wednesday, May 22, 11:30 a.m. – Lunch and Learn about PRMC Emergency Room services with Richard Romero.

Senior Center

Payson Senior Center schedule includes the following:

• Payson Christian School’s first- and second-grade students will visit at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 8 to sing for lunch diners.

• Something new is being offered at the Senior Center, 514 W. Main St. Anne James will give ukulele lessons at 9 a.m. Thursdays. Anne and her group, Anything Goes, perform Thursday mornings in the Center Dining Room.

• Free legal assistance for seniors will be offered by Pinal-Gila Council for Senior Citizens beginning at 9 a.m., Tuesday, May 14. Advance appointments are required and may be made by calling (928) 474-4876 or stopping in the Center Lobby.

• At 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 15, Richard Staudt of Rim Country Health will speak on Myofacial Therapy in the Center Dining Room. The program is free and open to the public.

Rimstones Rock Club

The Payson Rimstones Rock Club meets Wednesday, May 8 at the Payson Public Library, 328 N. McLane Rd. Starting time 2:30 p.m. for the board meeting and 3:30 p.m. for the regular meeting. The guest speaker will be Sandra Shover, who will demonstrate the art of wire wrapped jewelry.

TOPS moves

TOPS 0373 Payson (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter has changed its meeting place from Shiloh Christian Fellowship to the Senior Circle, 215 N. Beeline Highway, Payson. The group still meets every Thursday morning.

The weigh-in starts at 7:20 a.m. and the meeting starts at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 9:30 a.m.

Reaching Out Breast Cancer Support Group

The Reaching Out Breast Cancer Support Group meets on the second Thursday of every month from 12:30 p.m. until around 2:30 p.m. at the Mount Cross Lutheran Church, 301 E. Highway 260 (just past Safeway) in Payson. 

The Thursday, May 9 meeting will be held in the Fellowship Hall because of new carpet being put down in our regular spot. The guest speaker will be Bruce Brammer, who facilitates a GriefShare program that is presented weekly here in Rim Country for folks who have lost a loved one. 

He will be presenting information on how survivors can get through the difficult process of grieving. 

Anyone who has been diagnosed with breast cancer — be it a new diagnosis a “longtime survivor” — we welcome you. Come out and share an afternoon of information, fellowship, comfort and support. A light snack will be served. If you have questions, contact Ilona at (928) 472-3331.

Rim Country Celts

Rim Country Celts, a social club, will hold its monthly meeting at 6 p.m., Thursday, May 9 at the home of Su Connell and Stan Garner. There will be a potluck dinner followed by the business meeting. P.E.O. meeting

Chapter DF of the P.E.O. Sisterhood meets at 9:30 a.m., Friday, May 10 at the Church of the Nazarene on Tyler Parkway.

The hostess will be Lynne Wayne and co-hostesses will be Kate Adams and Evelyn Pickens.  Carolyn Bates will present the program, which will be a report on the Arizona State P.E.O. Convention. Visiting P.E.O.s are invited to attend. For further information, please call 472-2230.

Daughters of the American Revolution

The May meeting of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, May 10 in the Payson Public Library conference room. This will be the Mogollon Chapter’s annual meeting featuring reports and awards.

For more than 120 years, the Daughters of the American Revolution have carried the torch of patriotism. Love of country was the purpose and ancestors who fought for freedom was the bond that connected women from North and South to reunite the country following the Civil War. Today, Daughters continue the tradition of promoting patriotism, education and historic preservation. From small towns to metropolitan areas, DAR members make a difference in their communities.

Rim Country Optimists

The Rim Country Optimist Club usually meets the second Monday of each month at the Cedar Ridge Restaurant at the Mazatzal Hotel & Casino. The meeting starts at 5:15 p.m. with dinner and is often followed by a speaker at 6 p.m. and the board meeting at 6:30 p.m. Visitors are always welcome.

The next meeting will be May 13. Our speaker, Linda Purcell and her daughter, Kaila, will be talking about setting up and maintaining a Web site.

At this time we would like to thank all those who donated, sponsored, partnered with us and/or attended our 7th Annual Fishing Festival. We had perfect weather, the fish were biting and many people, young and “young at heart” attended.

Photographers meet

Members of the Rim Country Photography and Camera Club will meet at 6:30 p.m., Monday, May 13 at Rim Country Apartments, 807 W. Longhorn Rd. After entering the drive, turn right and go to the building marked 809. 

The meeting will feature a photo presentation by Gregory McKelvey on “Infrared Photography, What It Is and How To Do.”

Library Friends of Payson meeting

Library Friends of Payson will host a Transition Town Payson presentation at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 20 in the library meeting room. Speakers Monte McCord, Vee and Dean Gooding will explain the “Transition Model” — an emerging grass-roots response to climate change, depletion of resources and worldwide economic uncertainty. 

The mission of Transition Town Payson is to encourage people to work together to build an environmentally resilient Rim Country. It promotes networking among all of these groups in an effort to strengthen them and our local community. TTP Motto is “Reduce-Reuse-Recycle” - the three R’s that form the practical application of Transition values.

The Library Friends and Transition Town Payson extend a welcome to all who would like to attend this free program.
