Southbound traffic today, May 10, on Beeline could be heavy as throngs of Payson High fans, boosters and students travel to the Valley to cheer on the baseball, softball and track and field teams in state tournament action.

The baseball team, fresh off tournament upsets of Blue Ridge and Show Low play at 6:30 p.m. in the Surprise Sports Complex against Tucson Empire.

A Longhorn win would catapult the team into the state championship at 7 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, against the winner of a semifinal game pitting Chino Valley against Fountain Hills.

The softball team begins pursuit of the program’s first-ever state title at 7:30 p.m. today at Phoenix Rose Mofford Complex against Winslow.

If the Lady Horns win, they would play at 7:45 p.m. tomorrow in the state championship against the survivor of an Estrella Foothills vs. Empire final-four clash.
