On behalf of the Friends of Rim Country GCC and the Friends of Payson Parks and Recreation I would like to thank all the wonderful people of Rim Country who came out to enjoy a fun-filled family evening of laughter and basketball antics.
Thank you to the Tonto Apache Tribe, Gila Community College, KC’s Home Healthcare, Kevin Dick Investment Management Group and the Payson Roundup for their sponsorship of the game. Player sponsors included ERA Young Realty, Good Samaritan Majestic Rim, Safeway, Hoosava Bucking Bulls, Gerardo’s Firewood Cafe, KRIM, Masonic Lodge #70, Chitwood Cabinets, Dr. Troy Ford of Payson Eye Care, Chris and Mary Wolf, Gila Community College students and staff and the Gila Community College Fire Science Program.
The Rim Country Middle School assembly was graciously sponsored by Supervisor Tommie Martin.
Lori with the Harlem Ambassadors told me that this was the first time they have had such a welcome. The banners your leadership group created and displayed as they welcomed them on the street were awesome! The huge banner in the gym was great! The message of “Stay in School, Stay Off Drugs and No Bullying” was well received by the students.
To all our volunteers from the ticket takers (Maria, Jim, Michelle, Judy and Gary), planning group (Cameron, David, Mary, Jerry, John and Pam), 50/50 raffle ladies (Tauna and Deborah), the custodians and everyone else I’ve happened to miss a hearty thanks! We couldn’t have done it without you.
Mayor Evans, thank you for the welcome greeting and introduction of the 1979 Payson Longhorn State Champion Basketball Team. Farrell, Tony, Beau and Jerry were very touched as well as the other members who were missing but present in spirit.
The Payson All-Stars performed above and beyond expectations. Cody, Carrie and Bobby added spice to the evening. You had to be there to know what I’m talking about. They know!
Last, but not least, a special thank you to Maria and Gerardo Moceri. They kept open their restaurant for the Harlem Ambassadors arrival at 10:10 p.m. and then proceeded to serve a family style feast fit for royalty until we left and said goodbye to the players at midnight! You two are very special people!
At the end of the day we raised funds to provide scholarships to Rim Country Gila Community College students and Parks and Recreation activities. In the process we had a lot of fun and laughter! Thank you all!
