Drought conditions, higher temperatures and increased fire danger have resulted in fire restrictions being implemented within and around the Town of Payson and Rim Country.

The United States Forest Service on May 22, 2013 implemented a prohibition on building fires, campfires or using a charcoal-burning device within the Tonto National Forest. There are exceptions allowed by the Forest Service in specific developed recreation sites and campgrounds.

To insure the safety of our community, Rim Country area fire departments are suspending burning permits on May 22, 2013. We continue to remind the public that the use of fireworks is prohibited on the forest and in the Town of Payson at all times. Violation of these restrictions is punishable by law.

There are additional restrictions are now in effect to protect our homes, businesses, and natural resources from the increased potential for dangerous fires.

Effective immediately the building of an open fire, campfire, or recreational fire is prohibited within most areas of the Town of Payson and Rim Country.

This restriction does not apply to the safe use of outdoor grills utilized for cooking on private property.
