Gila County Sheriff Adam Shepherd recently promoted Detention Sgt. Christine J. Duarte to the rank of lieutenant from a field of four candidates.
Duarte started with the Gila County Sheriff’s Office in 2003, rising through the ranks to her 2008 appointment as administrative sergeant.
She also received the Major James Eskew Juggling Act award in 2012 and was named the Arizona Detention Association Supervisor of the Year in 2013.
Duarte’s father and husband both have had law enforcement careers, with her husband working at the Gila County Jail and her brother, AJ Castaneda, as a sergeant with the Globe Police Department.
Her mother, Rosemary, is the mayor of Miami.
