Let’s be clear. No one has challenged Brenda Barton’s right of speech. What is rightly challenged is her use of it.
As citizens of a town she allegedly represents, many of us believe we deserve dignity and truthfulness in our representative. She exhibits neither in her recent rant.
Her self-righteous remarks rebuking a challenger for their lack of knowledge about Hitler only highlights her own lack of that knowledge.
Hitler was never elected by the public. His political party received a plurality vote and he later basically commandeered the role as leader.
He did not institute health care. Health care in Germany was originally begun in the 1880s under Bismark.
He did not originate firearms restrictions. They were in place before he took control, and were tightened later to prevent Jews from owning guns.
National forest employees are certainly not “thugs” for doing a duty approved by one Congress while operating under very restrictive conditions imposed by another one.
Being wrong is no sin, but being belligerent and offensive certainly deserves an apology to her constituents.
