Jazz concert Sunday
The Payson Friends of Jazz will feature pianist and saxophonist Frank Smith, along with Steve Douglas, upright string bass; Gerry Reynolds, drums; and surprise guest, David Robinson, guitar; in a performance Sunday, Nov. 10 in Payson.
Smith has performed for 40 years with a wide range of professionals, including Gladys Knight and the Pips, The Coasters, Frankie Valle, Little Anthony and the Imperials, The Diamonds and The Fifth Dimension.
Robinson has performed with Stevie Nicks, The Four Tops, Sam “Soul Man” Moore, Joni Sledge, the Phoenix Symphony and many others.
The program is at the Community Presbyterian Church, 800 W. Main St., Payson. Doors opens to the community at 2 p.m. and the music begins at 3 p.m. (one hour later than at previous concerts). Estate Sale this weekend
The Payson Lions Charitable Foundation will conduct an Estate Sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Friday, Saturday and Sunday to raise funds for eye exams and glasses for the Working Poor.
The sale will take place at a large, luxury home at 1004 N. Hillcrest Dr. in Payson. Sale items will include living room sets, a large sectional, trundle bed, recliners, chairs, bedroom sets and bedding, large oval freestanding mirror, conches, patio set, hand tools, ladders, many kitchen items and dishware, antique crystal, silver/bronze flatware, numerous silver pieces including tea set, original Hector Salas oil painting, refrigerator, LPs, CDs, clothing, etc.

St. Philip’s Annual Fall Craft & Bake Sale
The Mystical Rose Sodality of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 511 S. St. Philip St., hosts its annual Holiday Craft and Bake Sale Nov. 8-10.
Along with the new Christmas decorations and other crafts, a bargain table of books and gently-used items is there for the thrifty shopper.
Chances are being sold for three beautiful prizes to be drawn at noon, Sunday, Nov. 10. Raffle tickets are $1 each or a book of six for $5 and can be bought in the parish hall during the sale.
Free brush disposal
The Regional Payson Area Project….for a Fire Wise Rim Country (RPAP) will be staffing free brush drop-off points at the following locations, weather permitting:
Saturday, Nov. 9, the Blattner Pit will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Blattner Pit is located at Milepost 259.7 on Highway 260, east of Payson.
Sunday, Nov. 10, the Pine Pit will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Pine Pit is located .7 of a mile east of Highway 87 on Control Road, south of Pine.
All RPAP free drop-off locations are for brush, leaves, pine needles, trimmings and other vegetative materials only. No household garbage, construction debris, or other items will be accepted, and use by commercial haulers is prohibited.
Shepherd of the Pines Lutheran Church’s annual Cookie Walk is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 9 at the church at 507 W. Wade Lane, Payson.
High Country Holiday Bazaar
Community Presbyterian Church’s High Country Holiday Bazaar is a great place to look for those unique, handmade gifts. It will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 9 at Julia Randall Elementary School, 902 W. Main St., Payson.
A variety of handmade arts and crafts and baked goods will be available, along with a barbecue lunch. Mr. and Mrs. Claus will be on hand from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the children.
Healthful uses for cranberries
The November 9 Cookin’ for Health class at the Payson Public Library will explore creative healthful ideas on using fresh, whole cranberries, beginning with cranberry juice; cranberry syrup, which may be used for desserts, pancakes, cocktails, added to salad dressings etc.; easy cranberry relish; and fresh cranberry coffee cake.
The class is at 1 p.m. and facilitated by Peggy Martin, Certified Nutrition Consultant. Register as soon as possible at the library circulation desk as space is limited. The library is located at 328 N. McLane Road.
AARP Driver Safety Course
The next AARP Driver Safety Course is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (and includes a 1-hour lunch break), Saturday, Nov. 9 at the Payson Senior Circle, 215 N. Beeline Highway.

Falling Leaves Fashioneesta Event is Saturday
The Rim Country Optimist Club will be holding its 3rd Annual Falling Leaves Fashioneesta Event from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 9 at the Payson Senior Center, 514 W. Main St.

Free dental services offered to veterans Nov. 11
Attention military veterans! The Payson Elks Lodge, 1206 N. Beeline Highway, will hold its annual Veterans Day Ceremony and Dinner at 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11. Veterans eat free, all others pay $8.

Chamber annual meeting
The annual meeting of the Rim Country Chamber of Commerce will take place beginning at 8 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 13 at the Best Western Payson Inn. The agenda will feature talks by board President Harvey Pelovsky, a financial review of the year, a discussion of 2013 accomplishments and the election of officers. All members are urged to attend.
