Payson Elks

The Payson Elks Lodge (BPOE 2154) has the following planned for the week:

• Friday, Nov. 15: 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., order dinner from menu; 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Just Ginger

• Saturday, Nov. 16: 10:30 a.m., doors open for 11 a.m. Bunco for $15 per person, which includes door prizes and a lunch of cream of chicken soup with a sandwich, coffee and iced tea, guests are asked not to bring containers with liquid; 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Just Ginger; 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., food served

• Sunday, Nov. 17: noon to 4 p.m., food served; noon doors open for 1 p.m. Bingo; 4:30 p.m., pool tournament.

Payson Walkers

Members of the Payson Walkers meet at 9 a.m. daily for an hour-long hike on pavement. The following starting points have been scheduled:

Nov. 16 — West end of Longhorn

Nov. 17 — Library

Nov. 18 — Elks Lodge on Airport

Nov. 19 — Green Valley Parks and Rec

Nov. 20 — Walgreens

Please park away from the most used areas of any parking lot so as to not block businesses/clients, etc.

Ponderosa Piecers Quilting Guild

The Ponderosa Piecers Quilting Guild monthly meeting is at 9 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 16 at the American Legion Hall, 709 E. Hwy. 260. It is open to anyone interested in quilting. Youngsters 10 and older, interested in quilting and accompanied by an adult, are welcome.

Sons of the American Revolution

The Rim Country Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution meets at 8 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 16 at Tiny’s Restaurant, 600 E. Highway 260. Jesse Davies, K9 officer with the Payson Police Department, will discuss the duties and activities of a K9 officer.

Payson Lioness Club

The Payson Lioness Club meets at 9 a.m. the third Saturday of the month at Tiny’s Restaurant, 600 E. Highway 260.

Sponsored by the Payson Lions Club, members enjoy activities, service projects and events that benefit local charities. All interested persons are welcome to attend. You are never too young or young at heart to be a Lioness. For more information, call Carol at (928) 978-4132.

Library Friends of Payson host speaker

The Library Friends of Payson will present Stan Garner, founder of The Train Source, Inc., a motion picture consulting and train coordinating company, as the speaker at its Nov. 18 meeting.

Garner has worked as a train consultant, train coordinator and actor on more than 310 film, television and still shoots in all parts of the country.

The Library Friends of Payson meeting, which is held in the library meeting room, starts with a short business meeting at 10 a.m. and the program will begin at 10:30 a.m. The public is invited to both the business meeting and the free program.

Overeaters Anonymous

Overeaters Anonymous meets from 2 p.m. Mondays at the Rim Country Health and Retirement Community Room, 807 W. Longhorn Road (after turning in the main driveway, turn right at the first driveway. The Community Room is in the center of the apartment complex). There are no fees or dues.

Buddhist Meditation and Study Group

The Payson Buddhist Meditation and Study group meets from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Monday evenings at the Payson Center for Spiritual Awareness, 107 W. Wade Lane. Call (928) 595-1378 for additional information.

Write for Rights

December is Human Rights Awareness Month. Join local Amnesty International human rights activists as they prepare for the world’s largest letter writing event: the International Write a Thon on Saturday, Dec. 7. Help members of Payson Amnesty shine a light on human rights issues in the community and throughout the world.

The Payson Chapter’s regular monthly meeting is from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, Nov. 18 at the Payson United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 414 Easy Street, behind Ace Hardware. For more information, call Penny, (928) 978-1268.

Payson Area Singles     

The Tuesday Morning Breakfast Bunch, a group of single men and women, meet at 9 a.m. every Tuesday at Tiny’s Restaurant, 600 E. Highway 260. The group visits and plans future activities, which include:  

• Christmas party, 4:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 12 at Tiny’s with dinner, Santa, and the whole works.             

• Members are joining together to attend a Silver Sneakers exercise program at Club USA, near Sawmill Theatres.

Friendship Bible Class

Rim Country 4 Wheelers

Members of the Rim Country 4 Wheelers invite anyone interested in 4-wheeling to join them at 9 a.m. each Wednesday in the parking lot at the east end of Bashas’ by Jiffy Lube. Normally anywhere from four to a dozen or more members participate and the destination is usually determined at that time. Runs also occur once a month on a Saturday and the destination is usually predetermined at the prior month’s meeting.

NARFE meeting

The Mogollon Chapter 1235 of the National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees will hold its monthly no-host luncheon and meeting Wednesday, Nov. 20 beginning at 11:30 a.m. and ending at 1:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at Tiny’s Restaurant, 600 E. Highway 260. The speakers are Drs. Eric Anderson and Justin Church from the Anderson Dental Group.

All active and retired federal employees are invited to attend. Please bring non-perishable food items for the Payson food bank. All new members will receive a free lunch. Please note that this is the third Wednesday and not the fourth Wednesday due to Thanksgiving this month.

Payson Area Stroke Survivors

This support group for stroke survivors and their caregivers meets the third Wednesday of the month. The next meeting is from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 20 at the Mogollon Health Alliance Activity Room next to the Almost New Shop on East Aero Drive.
