Annual Christmas Lighting In Swiss Village

Tradition and fantasy will come together the day after Thanksgiving at the Swiss Village’s 35th annual Christmas Lighting.

Ron and Carol Reed of Payson Candle Factory started this family event in 1979. People come from all over Arizona to see the lights, join in the fun and see Santa. One year the event drew 4,000 people, who strolled past the many decorated trees sipping cider.

This year the Swiss Village will once again sponsor a gingerbread house decorating contest, with the entries displayed at Dimi Espresso. The most original designer will win tickets to the Polar Express, a Christmas train ride on the Grand Canyon Railway.

Businesses will be decorating many trees for the party, which will then be donated to needy families afterward.

If you’re interested in either the gingerbread contest or the Christmas trees, call Rebecca at Crafter’s Cubbies, (928) 978-0640.

Be sure to come early to have a pony ride and then see the lights come on at 6 p.m. as Santa arrives.

The event is from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, Nov. 29 at Swiss Village, 600-800 N. Highway 87, Payson.
