Payson Walkers

Members of the Payson Walkers meet at 9 a.m. daily for an hour-long hike on pavement. The following starting points have been scheduled:

Nov. 20 — Walgreens

Nov. 21 — Gila Community College north lot

Nov. 22 — Home Depot

Please park away from the most used areas of any parking lot so as to not block businesses/clients, etc.

Payson Elks

The Payson Elks Lodge, 1206 N. Beeline Highway, serves lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Other activities include:

Wednesday, Nov. 20 – 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., potluck, bring a dish to share or pay $5 per person; 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Karaoke with Ginger.

Friday, Nov. 22; 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., buffet; 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Plan B Band.

Saturday, Nov. 23 - Bingo for the Children, doors open 11 a.m., lunch of vegetable beef soup, ham and Swiss on rye, at 11:30 a.m., Bingo starts at 1 p.m. - all proceeds go to the Children’s Shopping Spree; 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Payson Elks Jam Band, no longer serving food.

Sunday, Nov. 24 – noon to 4 p.m., food served, 1 p.m., Bingo (doors open at noon), 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., happy hour, 4:30 p.m., pool tournament.


Justin Pierce

Republicans host Justin Pierce

The Rim Country Republican Club meets Monday, Nov. 25 at Tiny’s Family Restaurant, 600 E. Highway 260. Members and guests may gather at 11 a.m. to order lunch and to socialize. Beginning at 11:30 a.m., Justin Pierce, candidate for Arizona Secretary of State will speak.

Masonic Lodge

The Sy Harrison Masonic Lodge #70, located at 200 E. Rancho Road in Payson, meets every Tuesday at 7 p.m. A dinner is held at 5:30 p.m. every second Tuesday for members, families and guests with an after-dinner program followed by the lodge’s Stated Meeting at 7 p.m.

Rim Country 4 Wheelers

Members of the Rim Country 4 Wheelers invite anyone interested in 4-wheeling to join them at 9 a.m. each Wednesday in the parking lot at the east end of Bashas’ by Jiffy Lube. Normally anywhere from four to a dozen or more members participate and the destination is usually determined at that time. Runs also occur once a month on a Saturday and the destination is usually predetermined at the prior month’s meeting.

International Police Association

The International Police Association (I.P.A. Region 61 Northern AZ) meets for breakfast at Mazatzal Casino Restaurant at 9 a.m. every Wednesday. All honorably retired law enforcement and active law enforcement personnel are welcome.

NARFE meeting

The Mogollon Chapter 1235 of the National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees will hold its monthly no-host luncheon and meeting Wednesday, Nov. 20 beginning at 11:30 a.m. and ending at 1:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at Tiny’s Restaurant, 600 E. Highway 260. The speakers are Drs. Eric Anderson and Justin Church from the Anderson Dental Group.

All active and retired federal employees are invited to attend. Please bring non-perishable food items for the Payson food bank. All new members will receive a free lunch. Please note that this is the third Wednesday and not the fourth Wednesday due to Thanksgiving this month.

Payson Area Stroke Survivors

This support group for stroke survivors and their caregivers meets the third Wednesday of the month. The next meeting is from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 20 at the Mogollon Health Alliance Activity Room next to the Almost New Shop on East Aero Drive.

Garrett Retirees

Rim Country Garrett Retirees meet at Tiny’s Thursday, Nov. 21. Social hour begins at 11 a.m., with lunch served at noon. Friends, family and Honeywell retirees are always welcome. The Tuesday Morning Breakfast Bunch, a group of single men and women, meet at 9 a.m. every week at Tiny’s Restaurant, 600 E. Highway 260, to visit and plan future activities. Upcoming event include:

• Thursday, Nov. 21, 5 p.m., Payson Area Singles will have dinner at The Journigan House

• Thursday, Nov. 28, Thanksgiving Day, singles will join together for a free dinner at Tiny’s Restaurant at 11:30 a.m.

• The Christmas party will be at Tiny’s Restaurant at 4:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 12. The group will be having dinner, a visit from Santa, gifts, and more.  

• Tuesday and Thursday members attend a Silver Sneakers exercise program together at Club USA at the Sawmill Crossing center.

Shepherd of the Pines Lutheran Church, 507 W. Wade Lane, will have a special Thanksgiving Eve worship service at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 27. Write for Rights

December is Human Rights Awareness Month. Join local Amnesty International human rights activists as they prepare for the world’s largest letter writing event: the International Write a Thon on Saturday, Dec. 7. Help members of Payson Amnesty shine a light on human rights issues in the community and throughout the world.
