Officers suspect alcohol played a part in a rollover accident last weekend near Christopher Creek.
A 32-year-old woman from the Valley was driving westbound toward Payson Friday when she lost control of her vehicle and rolled in the median of Highway 260 near milepost 265.5, said Sgt. Erik Axlund with the Department of Public Safety.
The vehicle reportedly rotated clockwise, “tripped, flipped and rolled in the median,” Axlund said.
Paramedics took the driver, whose identity was not released, and a 16-year-old passenger to Payson Regional Medical Center. The juvenile was treated and released, but the driver was airlifted to a Valley hospital.
The investigating officer believes alcohol played a role in the wreck, Axlund said. Charges are pending against the driver.
The officer cited the juvenile for not wearing a seatbelt.
DPS is cracking down on seatbelt violations, he said.
