More Ways To Help Your Local Humane Society

humane society of central arizona

The holiday season is here, and if you find yourself in the spirit of giving, here are a few more ways you can help out the Humane Society of Central Arizona and the homeless animals of the Rim Country.

Steve Coury Ford in Star Valley will have Christmas trees on display in the showroom where you can vote for your favorite tree. Each tree will be labeled with the name of a participating non-profit organization and their sponsoring business. There will also be a silent auction sheet designated for each tree. To place your vote for HSCAZ, bring non-perishable food items and place them under our tree. You can vote from Dec. 2 through Dec. 14 during Steve Coury Ford business hours. You can vote as often as you would like, since all food items will be donated to local food banks. Voting and silent auction both end at 5 p.m. sharp on Dec. 14.

Arizona State Credit Union will have a giving tree at their Payson location, 104 E. Highway 260, to help benefit HSCAZ. Members will be able to take one or more tags from the tree. Each tag has an item or items from our wish list that can be purchased. All wish list items must be taken to Arizona State Credit Union by Dec. 23.

Come by HSCAZ and purchase an adorable 2014 calendar! You can also buy an envelope that Julia Randall Elementary students decorated for our Wall of Hope. There are still plenty of envelopes to be purchased. You can also shop at our Thrift Store. There are many fabulous items at reasonable prices. Christmas is coming soon, so stop by and get your shopping done.

We are located at 605 W. Wilson Court, just south of Main Street off South McLane Road. Shelter hours are Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday, 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Closed Sundays and holidays.

Adoption Options

Looking to add a feline to your family? Check out our cats available for adoption at the Payson PetSmart, 400 E. Highway 260. Also, we are having a pet adoption special through the end of the year. Visit the shelter and choose a a dog or cat, puppy or kitten to adopt, then draw your adoption fee from the holiday bucket. Fees range from $25 to $50, and senior to senior adoptions are just $15. All adoptable pets are already spayed or neutered and current on vaccinations. Here are just a few of the many great pets to choose from.

Oscar Wilde

My name is Apollo and I am a friendly boy! I can be a little shy in my kennel, but watch me warm up in the yard! I am energetic and fun-loving! I’d make a great hiking companion. I am a smart pup, and would love to learn some tricks. I am friendly with most dogs, even pushy ones! I’d make a great addition if your dog needs a buddy!

Oscar Wilde is your typical outgoing kitten. He is fun-loving, affectionate and always has a good time. He gets along well with other cats, children, adults and friendly dogs. He can be seen at our local PetSmart.

My name is Biscuit and I am a young, playful pup! I am super friendly, but need to learn some rules. I am eager to learn and motivated by treats and attention. I have plenty of energy for any endeavor! I am working on my manners, so please be patient! I like dogs, but I have trouble controlling myself when we play. I will need tolerant friends that can show me the ropes!

My name is Jelly and I am a quiet, reserved little girl, but I sure love laps! It takes me a while to make friends, but give me some time and I will wag my tail for you! If I can sit in your lap, I might give you a kiss! I am house trained, crate trained, and walk easily on a leash. I startle pretty easily, so no small children, please. Other dogs are okay. I am happy to share my space, but not my food! Quiet, polite dogs (like me!) make good playmates.

Sockatee is a big boy with an even bigger heart. He is very affectionate and loves people of all ages. He has lived with other cats and dogs, and actually prefers the company of dogs over cats. Sockatee likes to meow and talk to you. He isn’t afraid to let you know that he wants a tasty treat or a nice ear scratch.

My name is Bootsie and I’m a lovable girl. My favorite places are in your lap or right next to you. I like other cats and kids. I DO NOT like dogs though. I don’t know what they are and I have no interest in finding out. I love to play even if I am an adult. I came into the shelter as an owner surrender and was adopted out. But I had to come back because my mom couldn’t take me to her new house. The landlords weren’t cat people. I’m OK though, being in here twice now. I’m just waiting to find my fur-ever home. I can be adopted at our local PetSmart.
