The beautiful autumn season is here. The weather is perfect, the apples are falling and the temperatures in the early morning are around 39 degrees. What could be better? The squirrels are scampering around either playing or fighting over acorns, I can’t tell, but they are fun to watch.
Bobbie Davis is always the first Villager to start the fall season off with her wonderful blow-ups in her front yard. They are all about Halloween and they are fun to see. Check them out. They are located right at the beginning of Johnson Boulevard.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month
One of the most important events in October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I don’t know how you feel about mammograms, but I get one every year. I hope that you ladies out there take this advice very seriously and make an appointment for a mammogram. Do it right away!
Hellsgate Fire Department
In observance of National Fire Prevention Week, the Hellsgate Fire Department will hold a celebration from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 10.
The event will feature a discussion on kitchen fires and the firefighters will be demonstrating a new fire extinguisher. There will also be an extrication team demonstration and a exhibition of how to put out the flames in a vehicle.
There will also be hot dogs on the grill with firefighter Jeff Plante showing off his culinary skills.
The Hellsgate Fireflies auxiliary will be on hand to sell the cookbook, “Fireflies Can Cook,” T-shirts and caps.
Many other activities are being planned so that the evening will be jam-packed with many things to see and experience.
Birthdays, anniversaries, etc.
Matt and Mitzi Brabb of Tonto Village III start off the month celebrating their 11th wedding anniversary on Oct. 5. Karen Carlen of Star Valley and the former administrative assistant at the Hellsgate Fire Department will add another candle on her birthday cake on Oct. 7. Angie Lecher, the financial business manager for Hellsgate Fire Department, has her birthday on Oct. 9. Bill and Janet Snyder will be celebrating their 56th wedding anniversary on Oct. 12. Also on that day, Hellsgate firefighter Jeffrey Yunkans and Rachelle McGee will tie the knot at the Oxbow on Main Street.
Happy anniversary to all the anniversary couples and happy birthday to all who add another year.
Thought of the week
What has America become? Has America become the land of the special interest and home of the double standard? For instance: If we lie to the Congress, it is a felony; and if Congress lies to us it’s just politics. Just saying!
