Find warm clothes at Senior Thrift Store

Stock up on warm clothes at bargain prices at the Senior Thrift Store on Historic West Main. The shop is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and this First Friday, Oct. 4 and Saturday, Oct. 5, will be Roll the Dice Day. Shoppers toss dice provided at the cashier station, before making purchases, and will be given discounts on merchandise depending what numbers they roll — in some cases, up to 50 percent.

Animal Welfare Thrift Shop

Visit the Animal Welfare Thrift Shop on First Friday, Oct. 4 for a half-off sale. Located at 434 S. Beeline Hwy., Suite B, C & D, it is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday-Saturday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays. Starting Tuesday, Oct. 8, shop hours will change to 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday-Saturday, but stay 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays. Proceeds benefit local animal rescue organizations. PAHH ReStore

First Friday, Oct. 3, the Payson Area Habitat for Humanity ReStore will once again offer 50 percent off on purchases up to $175. The ReStore is also looking for donations of gently used household furnishings, appliances and building materials. It offers free pick up and all proceeds from the ReStore stay within the Payson. Down the Street Art Gallery

The artists at Down the Street Art Gallery invite the public to the opening of a showing of self-portraits.

The opening is First Friday Oct. 4 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Down the Street Art Gallery is at 703 W. Main St. Payson.

Community Presbyterian Church

Community Presbyterian Church, 800 W. Main St., is hosting a First Friday event from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 4. The CPC’s very own “No Name” group will be playing a variety of music. There will be a dinner that is served for a donation of $5, with proceeds going to the Deacon’s Food Pantry.

Family Movie Night

The congregation of Shepherd of the Pines Lutheran Church, 507 W. Wade Lane, Payson, invites Rim residents to attend a Family Movie Night at 6:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 4, at the church. The event is free and refreshments will be available.

Young Eagles program

The Payson Airport will host the Young Eagles program from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 5.

Youth ages 8 through 17 years will have a pre-flight instruction period and then go up in a plane for a 15- to 20-minute demonstration on flying. A parent or guardian must attend to sign a waiver.

Apple Fest, Antique Show, Chili Cook-Off in Pine

Get up to the Pine Strawberry Community Center between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 5 or 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 6 for the annual Apple Festival and Antique Show. There will also be a Chili Cook-Off from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 5.

Pumpkin Patch

Advocates for the Payson Community Garden have invited the public to come get a Halloween pumpkin and make a donation to area food banks.

The Garden on Tyler Parkway will open up its Pumpkin Patch on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and every weeknight after that from 4 p.m. to dark.

Autumn Fest

The 18th Autumn Fest weekend Arts & Crafts Bazaar is set to open free to the public at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5 in the Gila County Courthouse parking lot at Frontier and Beeline Highway, across from the Post Office. Show hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Sponsor of the event is Classic Celebrations, the fund-raising division of Greater Grace Fellowship Ministries of Yuma.

Democratic Picnic

The Democratic clubs of Payson and the Rim Country invite all interested folks to a picnic from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 5 at Rumsey Park, Ramada 4.

Payson Flute Circle

The Payson Flute Circle meets at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 6 in the meeting room behind Majestic Mountain Inn on East Highway 260.

The first half of the meeting, enjoy a guest performance by Jesse Kalu, a professional Native American Flute player from Sedona. A donation of $1 is requested.

Almost New Thrift Shop Sale

Select from hundreds of clothes, shoes, belts, etc. — anything else you wear (except for jewelry) — that can fit into one of the shop’s bags, and take it home for just one dollar. This sale will take place the first Monday of every month. The next sale is from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 7.

Proceeds help support the health scholarship fund and the many other programs put on by the Mogollon Health Alliance Auxiliary.

Foster parenting classes

If you are interested in becoming a licensed foster parent, or just would like to know more about how foster care and adoption works in Rim Country, Arizona’s Children Association is offering a new session of Deciding Together classes. Classes will be held once a week at the Pine Library in Pine, Ariz., beginning Oct. 8 and will go for seven weeks. Gun raffle

Payson’s Sy Harrison Masonic Lodge is holding a Big 3 Gun Raffle that includes a new Remington 1911 .45 caliber ACP handgun, a Henry Big Boy .44 Magnum rifle or a CZ-USA Mallard 12 gauge over/under shotgun for the winners. Tickets are $10 each.
