Fundamentals basketball academy

A fundamentals basketball camp for all boys and girls in the third-ninth grades who want to become better players will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. October 7-10. Former Paradise Valley basketball coach Bill Farrell and Payson High boys varsity basketball players will offer instructions in several areas, including offense, defense, shooting, passing, catching, dribbling, blocking, footwork and team skills. Volunteer coaches are welcome to come by to observe and participate.

Smart and biddy basketball

These programs are for children ages 3 through second grade and teaches the basic motor skills necessary to play organized basketball. The program focuses on teaching skills in dribbling, ball handling, passing, catching, shooting and running/agility.

Dates are Oct. 5, 12, 19 and 26 in the Julia Randall Elementary Gym. Cost is $30. Children must pre-register. Call Payson Parks, Recreation and Tourism at (928) 474-5242 for more information.

Youth basketball

Registration for seventh and eighth grade basketball ends Oct. 7. This is an opportunity to meet new friends, gain experience, learn new skills and get in shape for the basketball season. Don’t be left on the sidelines this fall. Sign up today. The seventh and eighth grade season will end prior to the middle school basketball tryouts for the school team. Cost is $30. Payson junior golf camp

Golf professional David Roehrig will instruct this year’s Payson junior golf camp, which is scheduled for Oct. 9-11. The camp is designed to give students a basic understanding of putting, short game and full swing. Cost is $45 per child.

Kids Fishing 101

Learn the techniques, discuss the proper use of equipment, and have a fun time learning to fish at Green Valley Lake on Oct. 19 with Tracy Purtee of “Let’s Talk Fishin” at the Payson Parks, Recreation & Tourism office, located at 1000 W. Country Club Dr. Rods and bait are provided; but participants are encouraged to bring their own. Register now. The cost is $5 per child. The event is open to children in the first-fourth grades.
