Program Helps Shoe Athletes

If you have need for athletic shoes for your baseball or soccer season, the Payson United Methodist Church can help.

The church has organized the Payson Sport Shoe Program to provide shoes for girls and boys through middle school age for soccer and baseball.

Through the donation of shoes from young athletes and their families and the generosity of various thrift shops and other organizations, PUMC has a stock of used baseball and soccer shoes. These shoes have been inspected, cleaned and disinfected for boys and girls who need them to participate in soccer or baseball.

PUMC will periodically operate mobile locations near the athletic fields at Rumsey Park to give away the shoes. Look for notices and Payson Sport Shoe Program signs at the distribution sites. People can also pick up shoes at the Methodist Church, a block east of Ace Hardware, at 414 N. Easy St., from 8 a.m. to noon, Monday through Thursday. Organizers hope coaches will announce the opportunity to their teams.

PUMC urges athletes to consider donating baseball or soccer shoes they won’t need at the conclusion of the regular season or when they outgrow shoes. Donate clean shoes in good condition at the church or any mobile program distribution. Although the church may ask for a donation of used shoes, a shoe donation is not required in order to receive shoes.

For more, information call Sport Shoe Program coordinators Larry or Joyce Kennedy between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at (928) 468-8887 or (928) 978-1882.
