A Giving Community

Last year the Payson United Methodist Church initiated a program to distribute sport shoes to our middle school and younger athletes that participate in the soccer and baseball programs in Payson. Thanks in large part to the generosity of Almost New Thrift, Animal Welfare Thrift, Humane Society Thrift, New Beginnings/The Nook Thrift, Senior Thrift and Time Out Thrift, we have been able to give more than 40 pairs of baseball and soccer cleats to deserving children. In addition to their donations, many of the families have given us their shoes to pass along to others. And without the valuable assistance of Max Foster, who always made sure to publicize our efforts and activities, the program would not have had such success.

The program continues this fall as the Payson Sport Shoe Program distributes and collects shoes during the Parks and Recreation Soccer League. We will take any shoes donated, give them a good cleaning and disinfecting, and pass them on. You will find our representatives at many practices and games during the season, where you can pick up or drop off shoes. You can also contact Payson United Methodist Church at 474-0485, Monday-Thursday mornings, for more information.

We sincerely thank all of those who support our youth in this most generous community!
