Barbara Underwood to speak to Democrats

The Democratic Club of Northern Gila County will meet at the Payson Public Library at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 18.

The guest speaker will be Barbara Underwood, president of the Payson Unified School District.

Payson Area Singles     

The “Tuesday Morning Breakfast Bunch,” a group of single men and women, meet at 9 a.m. every week, at Tiny’s Restaurant, 600 E. Highway 260, to visit and plan future activities.

Wednesday Sept. 18, carpool to Pine for lunch at The Early Bird Restaurant and then attend the Fiddler’s Jam Session at 1 p.m.

Thursday, Sept. 19, monthly Birthday Potluck Picnic at Willow Springs Lake. Carpool from Stage parking lot at 11:30 a.m.

Monday, Sept 23, Special Singles Breakfast at the Mazatzal Casino, 9 a.m.

DAR to commemorate Constitution Week

The Daughters of the American Revolution, Mogollon Chapter, invite you to join them in commemorating United States Constitution Week, an annual event which runs from Sept. 17 through Sept. 23.

This celebration of the adoption of this foundational document in American history will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 18, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Payson Public Library, 328 N. McLane Road. Visitors will be able to learn about their Constitution and the historical events leading up to its framing. Informational literature and copies of the Constitution will be available. Stop by and learn more about this defining event in American history.

Payson Area Stroke Survivors

Payson Area Stroke Survivors, a support group for stroke survivors and their caregivers, will meet from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18. We will meet at the Mogollon Health Alliance Activity Room next to the Almost New Shop on East Aero Drive.

Talk like a Pirate Day

Fancy Flair of Red (a Red Hat chapter) is hosting this fun event Thursday, Sept. 19 at Payson Elks Lodge, 1206 N. Beeline Highway.

The cost is $15 per person. Doors open at 10 a.m.

This will be a day of fun, merriment and prizes. Dress like a pirate or come as you wish. All are welcome.

Lunch is beef stew or sea dogs with potato salad and bread. There will also be fresh fruit on the tables and soft drinks.

A no-host bar, however, will be open.

The Strawberry Patchers Chapter of the AZ Quilters Guild meets at 9 a.m. every first and third Thursday in the Activity Room of the Isabelle Hunt Memorial Public Library.

The Payson Lioness Club meets at 9 a.m. the third Saturday of the month at Tiny’s Restaurant, 600 E. Highway 260.

Alpha course set

Alpha is a non-denominational course designed to explore the existence of God, the purpose of life, the afterlife, the claims of Jesus and more in a relaxed, friendly setting.

The class is Mondays, starting Sept. 30 and continuing through Nov. 11 and is open to the public. Advance registration is required. Dinner is served at 5:30 p.m. and class is at 6 p.m. Free childcare is available.
