Pray Wisdom Wins Out

No matter what any of us think about attacking Syria these days, if we do so, the reason for taking military action will no longer be that Assad used poison gas against his own people. The reason that we will use our missiles very soon, is now mostly to “save face.”

We will be compelled to do this to protect our national security and our commitment to all of our allies around the world. But what of Syria’s allies? Won’t they have to protect their national securities as well? Don’t they have obligations to assist if their ally is attacked? Russia has warships in the area too! Won’t they have to come to Syria’s aid when we strike?

The fuse of the Middle East was lit long long ago, but this one act of war will spread faster than the Rim Fire burning near Yosemite. Unfortunately, to do nothing at this point would be more dangerous to us than the spread of those chemical weapons, or at least that’s what we’re being led to believe at the moment.

Think of the risks. The war in Syria now becomes a full blown Middle East war. Our time spent in Afghanistan and Iraq will seem like a weekend at the beach. But, what the heck, we as people have enjoyed war throughout our existence, and I can’t think of any reason why we should change now. And that’s the shame and stupidity of it.

What we are facing is an extremely serious problem! Let’s hope and pray that wisdom wins out over our international egos!
