The Payson Parks & Recreation Department has the following youth sports programs planned. For additional details and registration information, call the parks office at (928) 474-5242, ext. 7.

Start Smart and Biddy Basketball

This program for children ages 3 through second grade teaches the basic motor skills necessary to play organized basketball. The focus is on teaching skills in dribbling, ball handling, passing, catching, shooting and running/agility. The sessions are scheduled for Oct. 5, 12, 19 and 26 in the Julia Randall Elementary gym. The cost is $30. Children must be pre-registered.

Middle school basketball

Payson Parks & Rec is offering middle school children an opportunity to meet new friends, gain experience, learn new skills and get in shape for the basketball season with a seventh and eighth grade youth basketball league. The season ends prior to tryouts for the middle school basketball team. Registration is open through Oct. 7. The cost is $30.

Fundamentals basketball camp

Boys and girls in the third through ninth grades are eligible to participate in a basketball camp from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Oct. 7-10. Coach Bill Farrell and the Payson High boys varsity players will be instructing on areas including shooting, passing, catching, dribbling, blocking, footwork and team skills. Volunteer coaches are welcome to observe and participate. The cost is $35 and includes a camp T-shirt.

Junior golf camp

Golf professional David Roehrig will instruct a camp designed to give students a basic understanding of putting, short game and full swing on Oct. 9-11. The cost is $45.
