Payson will get some national publicity on Sept. 26 when the “Fireball Run” online TV series films the dash through town of a parade of vintage cars and imitation movie stars.

Universal Studios is filming the seventh season, “Fireball Run All Stars & Movie Cars,” in partnership with the Town of Payson. Since 2007, the eight-day, 2,000-mile, life-size trivia game has provided material for the partially streamed, partially filmed show series.

About 40 celebrity and aspirational driving teams compete for bragging rights, an effort to raise awareness of missing children, and a plastic road sign. The teams solve clues and accomplish tasks based on city points-of-interest, history and culture. Often referred to as “the most fun you will ever have, doing the most important thing you’ve ever done,” every team is assigned a missing child from their home of origin and tasked with distributing posters. The effort annually distributes 65,000 posters across America and has aided in 38 child recoveries since 2007.

Season 7 participants include Shuttle astronaut, Jon McBride; Lamborghini legend, Valentino Balboni; Ray McClelland, host of “Car Warriors” on SpeedChannel; Rock Hall of Fame president, Terry Stewart; Long Beach Grand Prix winner, Shea Holbrook; Pro Rodeo champion, Kelly Kaminski; wakeboard champ, Tarah Mikacich; Ohio State Representatives, Marlene Anielski and Cheryl Grossman; Riverside, Calif. mayor, Rusty Bailey; Gallup, N.M. mayor, Jackie McKinney; Tioga, Pa. county commissioner, Mark Hamilton; Schenectady, N.Y. city councilman, Carl Erickson; Lake Placid, N.Y. councilman, David Jones; Alfred-State University professor, James Gerbec; Dr. Peter Jacoby, chairman of St. Mary’s Health Services.

Participant vehicles range from the Back to the Future Time Car, 1/250 Balboni Edition Lamborghini, 1978 Rolls Royce, Ferrari’s, Smokey & the Bandit Trans Am, rare production cars by Rally Fighter, “Nuclear Tac Team” limo from Cannonball Run II, M*ASH Ambulance, Hennessey Camaro, Australian Ute, 2013 Mustang Boss, 1970 Ford Galaxie, and vehicles by BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Dodge, Hyundai, Land Rover and Honda.

Destinations for the Sept. 20-28 event include Longmont, Colo., Riverside, Calif., Alamosa, Colo., Bloomfield, N.M., Gallup, N.M., Mesa, Ariz., and El Centro, Calif.

The vehicles will pass through Payson at about 2:40 p.m. on Sept. 26 on their way to Mesa.
