New AA meeting

A new open AA meeting is from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., Tuesday through Friday at Mogollon Health Alliance activities building, 308 E. Aero Drive. Park in gravel lot on left as you enter. Meeting is held in yellow activities building, up hill on left. For more information, call (928) 474-8779.

Payson Walkers

The Payson Walkers walk for an hour, mostly on pavement, starting from the following locations at 9 a.m. through the month of April.

• Saturday – west end of Longhorn

• Sunday – library, Rumsey Park

• Monday – Elks Lodge on Airport Road

• Tuesday – parks & rec office, Green Valley Park

• Wednesday – Walgreens

• Thursday – library, Rumsey Park

• Friday - Home Depot.

Rim Country Celts

The Rim Country Celts, Community Presbyterian Church and the vocal group Cinnamon Twist will host the following events to celebrate Scottish heritage and culture.

The Community Presbyterian Church, 800 W. Main St., Payson, hosts a Scottish First Friday at 5 p.m., Friday, April 4. Enjoy a meal of Scottish baked potatoes with all the fixings. Cinnamon Twist and Friends will perform traditional Scottish music. Guests will have an opportunity to find their clan tartan with the assistance of CPC members. There is no admission fee, but donations are encouraged and accepted.

The Kirkin’ o’ the Tartan service will be held at 10:15 a.m., Sunday, April 6 at the Community Presbyterian Church, 800 W. Main St., Payson. The Reverend Charles Proudfoot presents the service, which features piper Michael Donnelson of Flagstaff. Feel free to wear or carry your family or association tartan for blessing.

Computer group meets

The Payson Area Computer Association meets at 6:30 p.m., Friday, April 4 at the community room of the Payson Public Library, 328 N. McLane Road.

A video will be shown from a past APCUG Virtual Technology Conference on “Basic Troubleshooting of Your Computer.” Prior to this video, we will have a spokesperson from AARP talk about their tax preparation program for seniors.

Tai Chi and Qigong

Tai Chi and Qigong classes are offered at 9 a.m. Saturdays at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church parish hall, 1000 N. Easy St., Payson.

The program is especially designed for seniors 50 or older, but is beneficial for all ages. There is no charge, but donations are accepted to help the church with utility bills.

Pine/Strawberry Fuel Reduction

Pine/Strawberry Fuel Reduction, Inc. will hold its next meeting at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 5 in the Cultural Hall on Highway 87 in Pine.  Everyone is encouraged to attend.  

The newest board member will be introduced. There will be a question and answer time regarding this year’s brush pick-up program and a preview of the 2014 Fire on the Rim Mountain Bike Race.

Also on the agenda is the status of the Trails Project since the last public meeting.

PCSA hosts program on Dahn Yoga

At 11:15 a.m., Sunday, April 6 Jerrie Gathe, Glendale resident, will speak about how she was healed from fibromyalgia, chronic back pain, depression and other health issues due with Dahn Yoga education and practice.

Dahn Yoga is a dynamic mind-body practice that originated in Korea. It combines stretching, flowing movement, deep breathing exercises and meditation.

Sunday’s event includes refreshments following the service, and a two-hour workshop during which Gathe will demonstrate basic Dahn Yoga movements that can be practiced at home by almost everyone. The workshop is free and open to the public.

Democratic Women

The Democratic Women of Rim Country will meet at noon, Tuesday, April 8 at Tiny’s Restaurant, 600 E. Highway 260.

Lanny Morrison, candidate for Arizona State House from Legislative District 6, will be the speaker. Brenda Barton and Bob Thorpe currently represent LD-6.

Friendship Bible Class

Friendship Bible Class, a non-denominational Bible study for women, meets at 1 p.m. every Tuesday at Majestic Rim. All women in the community are invited. For information, call Marilyn at (928) 474-6712.

Beyond Limits

Beyond Limits meets this month at Shepherd of the Pines Lutheran Church, 507 W. Wade Lane, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 8. A great evening of music and inspiration will follow a delicious, free dinner. Family members, caregivers and service providers are always welcome to join us.
