The Forest Service within two weeks will pick an appraiser to put a value on the 240-acre parcel for a university campus, Tonto National Forest head Neil Bosworth told the Roundup this week.

The effort to strike a deal with Arizona State University to build a four-year campus in Payson has been stalled for six months waiting for the Forest Service’s regional office in Albuquerque to approve the bid package for an independent appraisal to set a price for a direct sale of the property to the Rim Country Educational Alliance.

Bosworth said his office will give the bid package to four or five qualified appraisers early next week, with a 10-day deadline for putting in a bid to place a value on the property.
