More than 140,000 people applied for the 26,000 tags for this year’s elk/ pronghorn antelope draw for hunts or bonus points.
Hunt permit-tags for successful applicants and refunds for people not picked go into the mail by April 18, pursuant to Arizona Game and Fish Department Hunting and Trapping Regulations.
About 121 elk tags remain, available for purchase on a first-come first-served basis by mail (beginning April 21) or in person (beginning April 28). These leftover tags give hunters who missed the draw deadline or didn’t get picked a second chance.
Leftover tags will be available for purchase by mail or in person as follows:
By mail — Applications submitted by mail will be accepted by the department beginning at 8 a.m. (MST), April 21 and must be mailed to Arizona Game and Fish Department, Attn: Draw/ First Come, 5000 W. Carefree Highway, Phoenix, AZ 85086. Please do not mail applications to any P.O. Box.
In person — Beginning at 8 a.m. (MST), April 28, hunters may purchase leftover tags and submit their applications in person at any of the seven AGFD offices.
Some of the leftover elk tags are for Hopi hunt open areas open to both tribal members and non-tribal members, through the first-come first-serve process.
Tags also remain for military hunts at Camp Navajo; contact http://www.azguard.gov/CampNavajo.htm or call (928) 864-6239 for additional information on Camp Navajo hunts.
